There is no doubt about it, the American people love to play the lottery. From the Powerball to other lotteries carried out in various states, you can find a lot of takers who regularly patronize the lottery. This passion is not really unique to the Americans but it cannot be denied that the lottery plays a large role in their lives. Have you ever wondered what brought this on?
For starters, one of the greatest American fathers was passionate about the lottery. Check out your dollar bill and you will see George Washington, to whom you can attribute the way of life in the U.S. today. If it weren’t for the proceeds of a colonial lottery, the U.S. might still be under the jurisdiction of the British. It was this money that was used for Washington’s campaign against the redcoats in his time.
Today, Americans love the idea that they can win big bucks for almost nothing. It is the dream – making it big and never have to work again. According to the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries, “players in the 38 states, plus Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands spent $42.4 billion on lottery tickets in fiscal year 2002, an average of $168 per capita and a 9 percent increase over the previous year.”
Imagine those figures! The average person will probably never hold that much money in his hands yet the possibility of having that chance gives everyone the drive to buy those lottery tickets on a regular basis.
Stumble it!
