$2 Million Winner, Taking Winning Calmly (Would You?)
Tawanna Turner of Hartsdale, Westchester CountyNew York plays Powerball every week and opts for the Power Play option that would increase her prize amount should she hit a winning combination.
She did just that, recently.
Turner hit a life changing combination from the December 22 drawing when she matched the first five numbers from that night’s drawing. By choosing the Power Play option for an additional dollar, Turner turned a $1,000,000 win into a $2,000,000 payday.
“I couldn’t believe what I saw when I checked the New York Lottery’s website and saw that I matched the first five numbers,” explained Turner.
“I checked a couple other state websites to make sure my numbers matched. That’s when I truly believed that I had won.”
Turner purchased her $2,000,000 winning Powerball ticket in Nanuet.
Turner will receive her $2,000,000 Powerball prize in one lump sum totaling $1,323,600 after required withholdings.
“There were a lot of tears of joy and a fast heartbeat when I realized I had just won $2,000,000,” explained Turner. “I really don’t know how I’ll spend the winnings. Once I calm down and let everything sink in I’ll decide.”
