Keep on Truckin’: Virginia Driver Takes Home $500,000 Lottery Scratcher Prize

When Maurice Hairston of Martinsville, Va. walked in to the Virginia Lottery’s customer service center in Roanoke, he had barely slept in two days.

He handed over a top-prize-winning ticket in the $500,000 Jackpot game.

“Now I can get some sleep!” he later told Lottery officials.

Hairston won the half-million-dollar prize with a ticket he bought on October 31 at Stop In, on Greensboro Road in Martinsville.

Even though he’s 76 years old, Mr. Hairston doesn’t intend to quit his job with a trucking company. He drove a truck for 50 years before becoming what he calls a “yard dog,” positioning trucks within the company property. “I’m not in debt. I just enjoy working,” he said.

European lottery alert. The Euro Millions Nov. 6 jackpot is a statospheric 100 million euros, or about $147 million, USD.

The Nov. 3 Mega Millions produced NO jackpot winner, so the Nov. 6 game carries a $63 million USD jackpot. The winning Nov. 3 numbers are 5,18,23,31,38 and Mega ball 20.

3 tickets matched the first five numbers and each of those tickets is worth $250,000. They were bought in Georgia, Massachusetts and New York.
