Where Would YOU Store a $50,000-Winning Lottery Ticket? Iowa Woman Hides it in Her Freezer.
This is a cool story I learned about from a friend at the Iowa Lottery. It concerns a Cedar Rapids woman who won $50,000 playing an Iowa scratch lottery ticket.
She bought one. And then left it in her purse for a week.
Well, we all do things like that (personally, I scratch immediately) on occasion, right?
When she finally played, she discovered that she had won $50,000.
Lori Bratton said she brought a ticket called “Double Payday” the day of her daughter’s graduation party, but didn’t play it for more than a week later.
She was at her husband’s office when she finally scratched the card.
“I was just sitting there waiting for him and I thought, I’ll just scratch this off. It took me a few times looking at it. Then, I said to my husband, ‘I think I just won $50,000.’”
She hid her ticket in her freezer over the weekend to keep it safe.
Bratton, 47, is a receptionist, and said she and her husband planned to use the money to pay off debts and spoil their daughters.
“One is 18 and one is 21,” she said. “My eldest daughter was really excited, but my younger one was a little skeptical, like my husband.
Bratton does not typically play $5 scratch tickets, she said. But decided to this time on a whim.
“The guy in front of me bought one, and I just thought, ‘Oh, I’ll take the next one.’”
And she’s glad she did.
Now, she has 50,000 reasons to smile.
GAMES WE PLAY:
There was no jackpot winner in the June 3 Powerball game so the jackpot moves up to $34 million on June 6.
The Powerball winning numbers are 16,20,22,32,37 and the Power ball is 9. The Power Play multiplier is 2.
3 tickets matched the first five numbers and they were bought in Colorado (the ticket is worth $200,000), Florida ($1 million, because the ticket was Power Played) and Minnesota ($200,000).
The June 5 Mega Millions jackpot is $17 million.
The June 5 Euro MIllions jackpot is the biggest jackpot being offered in the world at the moment, 43 million euros, or about $60.8 million, U.S.
Good luck players, wherever you are in the world.
