Somewhere in Winner, South Dakota is a $232.1 Million Powerball Winner
Somewhere in the great state of South Dakota, there is a Powerball ticket holder who is now worth $232.1 million. [Or less, if they choose the lump sum.]
I have mixed feelings about anyone who delays their coming forward after winning a jackpot.
I’m all for getting financial advice, lawyers, etc…after you win. That’s just a smart thing to do.
But, you know, you could get hit by lightning. Or run over by a car. Or anything.
Me? When I win my millions (hasn’t happened yet, damn it), I’ll be on the doorstep of my local lottery headquarters the next second.
Why? I want my money NOW. I’ll deal with the press and the people wanting a piece of my pie later…
But that’s just me.
What would you do?
In South Dakota, Lottery Director Norm Lingle said today that his
office has had another discussion with the apparent winner of the $232.1 million Powerball jackpot from the May 27 drawing.
“The apparent winner contacted the Lottery again today,” Lingle said.
“We had a very pleasant conversation and talked more about coming
forward to claim the prize.”
Lingle said he hopes to have more information about an official
announcement of the winner’s identity later this week.
“We are all anxious. But it is understandable that the winner is taking
time with some very important decisions,” Lingle said. “We’ll be ready
when the winner is ready.”
The lucky ticket was purchased in Winner, S.D. Of all places. Winner. How cool is that?
The $232.1 million jackpot is the ninth largest in the history of the
Powerball lottery game.
Powerball is played in 30 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The odds of winning the jackpot are 1:195,249,054.
But all is well in the world when you get a winner in Winner.
I know the people with the South Dakota lottery. When the winner or winners step forward, I’ll have the story and photos.
GAMES WE PLAY:
The June 3 Powerball jackpot is $25 million…$12.2 million lump sum.
The June 5 Mega Millions jackpot is a pretty cool $17 million.
And the big one in the world right now…is Euro Millions. That jackpot is 43 million euros, which computes to about $60.8 million, U.S. That draw is at 9 p.m. Paris time (where the drawing is, every Friday night), so if you’re betting that game…keep the time difference in mind, wherever you are.
Good luck, players, wherever you are in the world.
