Florida Lottery Winner Drives Away With Cash, Not New Car

People who don’t play the lottery too often don’t realize that state lotteries give away prizes…like cars, motorcycles, and trips and clothes… as well as money.

In fact, the whole phenomenon of what those in the business call “second chance” games is designed to stir up business. To let players know that even if you haven’t won the top prize, your non-winning ticket will be entered in a drawing or sweepstakes for second-chance prizes. I’ve seen people win millions of dollars playing second chance games.

So if YOUR state offers up scratch games, where there are second chance prizes, PLAY. PLAY. PLAY. Sometimes, so few people send in their non winning tickets that your odds of winnings TVs…trips…is good.

The Florida Lottery last week announced that the grand prize winner in the May 4, “Over a Billion Reasons to Play” Second Chance drawing claimed her prize at the Florida Lottery Tampa District Office on May 11.

Sandra Martin, 54, of Haines City, had the choice of a 2010 Ford Mustang convertible or the cash-option value of the car, $38,000.

She chose the cash option, having just purchased a new vehicle three weeks prior to the drawing.

Martin was in disbelief when she discovered she had won. “I had to see it on the computer myself before I believed it was real. I kept checking all night to make sure,”  she said.

Her daughter had no trouble believing she was a winner, stating that her mom is very lucky and wins all the time.

The “Over a Billion Reasons to Play” Second Chance drawings were held every Monday from April 6 through May 11. Players entered their non-winning BILLION DOLLAR BLOCKBUSTER tickets on the Florida Lottery’s Web site.

In each drawing, players had the chance to win the grand prize of a 2010 Ford Mustang or one of 5,000 second prizes of $50 in Lottery coupons. To date, there is one Mustang left to be claimed.

Congratulations, Sandra and family.

GAMES WE PLAY

There was no jackpot winner in the May 12 Mega Millions game so the top prize rises to $38 million on May 15.

The May 12 winning numbers are 4,8,10, 14,51 and the Mega ball is 31.

4 tickets, each worth $250,000, matched 5 of 5 but not the Mega ball. Those tickets were bought in Georgia, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Texas.

The May 13 Powerball jackpot is $129 million.
The May 15 Euro Millions jackpot is 15 million euros.

Good luck, wherever you are playing around the world.People who don’t play the lottery too often don’t realize that state lotteries give away prizes…like cars, motorcycles, and trips and clothes… as well as money.
