Winning the lottery is just the beginning

Virginia Lottery $100,000 Winner Ready to Retire

Ship ahoy!

After 42 years as a shipfitter, Cornelius Barrow of Newport News was contemplating retirement. Then he won $100,000 in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 game. “Now I can retire,” he told Lottery officials.

Mr. Barrow matched all five winning numbers in the April 21, 2009, Virginia Cash 5 night drawing.

He selected numbers that he has been playing for some time now.

Barro’s ticket was one of five in Virginia to win the top prize in that drawing.

When asked about his reaction to winning such a large prize, Barrow said simply, “It hasn’t affected me too much.”

Except for the earlier than expected retirement, that is.

GAMES WE PLAY:

No one won the jackpot in the last Powerball game so the May 13 jackpot rises to $129 million, by far the biggest jackpot going in the world.

The winning numbers for the May 9 draw are 4,15,32,49,58 and the Power ball number is 21. The Power Play multiplier is 3.

2 tickets hit the first five numbers, but not the Power ball. Those tickets were purchased in Iowa and Kentucky. Each ticket is worth $200,000.

The May 12 Mega Millions game offers up a $28 million jackpot.

The May 15 Euro Millions reverts back to a starting 15 million euros. This, after one ticket holder hit the 129 million Euro Millions jackpot on May 8. The ticket was bought in Spain.

Good luck, players, wherever you are in the world.

MY BOOK:

If you have a talk radio station in your town, let me know. I am booking up time on talk radio to talk lottery.  And yeah, I do talk about my book…but the discussion is always more about lotteries in general. It’s a lot of fun for me to be on the radio.  The book, by the way, is doing well. Thanks to all of you. If you haven’t ordered a copy yet, click on the book in the right hand column, or just go to amazon.com or barnes and noble bookstore.
