Georgia Grandmother Wins $250,000; Mega Millions Tops the $200 Million Mark
I am thrilled to talk today about a grandmother who won $250,000 playing a Georgia scratch card called “Bass Pro Shops $250,000 Cash Adventure.”
But what I’m most thrilled about is that she comes from Saint Simons Island, one of Georgia’s “Golden” Isles. A place where I hung out a lot after graduating from the U. of Georgia.
It’s an awesome place. An artist colony… great beaches, good beer. Cool people.
So congrats. Here is her story: Karen Ward can pencil in a quarter-million-dollar lottery win toward a college education for her grandchildren after winning $250,000.
The grandmother of four purchased the lucky ticket at Friendly Express on Demere Road on Saint Simons Island. [Trust me, there aren't that many convenience stores on the island.]
She waited until she returned home to scratch it.
“I said, ‘Wait a minute,’ ” she recalled. “And then I said, ‘Oh my goodness.’ I started hollering.”
Winning a prize will help jump start an educational fund for her grandchildren, Ward shared. The mother of four adult children currently is in school earning an accelerated degree.
Her oldest child is a lottery-funded (Georgia Lottery pays college scholarships) scholarship recipient majoring in political science at Fort Valley State University, she said.
Freakin’ awesome, I say.
GAMES WE PLAY:
There was no big winner in the April 28 Mega Millions game so the jackpot hits the $220 million mark on Friday, May 1. I know I’ll be playing.
The winning numbers on April 28 are 15,20,24,36,44 and the Mega ball is 6.
12 tickets matched 5 of 5, but not the mega ball. They were bought in California (3), Massachusetts, New Jersey (3), New York (2), Ohio, and Texas (2).
The April 29 Powerball jackpot is $65 million.
The May 1 Euro Millions jackpot is 98 million euros. That’s about $129 million, U.S.
To all players around the world, good luck.
