If You Like to Scratch, Go to Massachusetts
I’ve been involved in the lottery business for almost 10 years and right now, the biggest trend in the business is the popularity of instant scratch games.
Studies have been done about how popular they are with young people, but I believe everyone, of all ages, likes to scratch because of the instant gratification you get when you find out immediately, if you’ve won or not.
I’ve watched all the current states’ game and I don’t think any jurisdiction has more big money scratch game winners than Massachusetts.
Massachusetts probably has the best odds (whenever you buy a scratch game card, turn it over and check out the odds) and the highest payouts of any state.
I’ve never seen so many million-dollar winners anywhere.
Here, below, are some recent examples:
Dec. 26
When David Couto’s mother stuffed his holiday stocking with a $20 Billion Dollar Bonanza instant ticket, little did she know she was giving him the gift that keeps on giving, a $1 million prize. David Couto of Little Compton, Rhode Island recently came to Massachusetts Lottery headquarters to claim his $1 million prize and took home the first of 20 annuity payments of $50,000 before taxes.
Dec. 26
With his family in tow, Richard Diatalevi of Framingham arrived at Lottery headquarters to collect a $10 million prize that he won playing the Billion Dollar Blockbuster instant game. Diatalevi collected the first of 20 annuity payments of $500,000 before taxes.
Jan. 2
Nicola Pungitore III of Norwood rang in the New Year with a $10 million grand prize from the Massachusetts State Lottery.
Pungitore, who was given a Billion Dollar Bonanza instant ticket as a Christmas present from his mother, received his first of 20 annuity checks for $500,000 at Lottery headquarter in Braintree, Mass.
Billion Dollar Bonanza is the biggest game ever produced by a U.S. lottery. The $20 instant game features 10 instant prizes of $10 million and 150 instant prizes of $1 million. Overall, there are nearly 22 million winning tickets in the game.
So, next time you are in Massachusetts, don’t forget to scratch.
GAMES WE PLAY:
The Jan. 24 Powerball jackpot is worth $25 million.
The Jan. 27 Mega Millions jackpot is worth $30 million.
The Jan. 30 Euro Millions jackpot is worth 28 million euros.
Good luck, players.
