When Chanetia Prophet showed up at Maryland Lottery headquarters, she didn’t realize that she would become a new millionaire. Accompanied by her mother, the 31-year-old walked into the Lottery’s “Winner’s Lounge” to flashing lights, television cameras and loud applause.
Thinking she was merely a finalist in the contest her startled expression revealed her complete surprise at being chosen the Lottery’s Set For Life top-prize winner.
“Chanetia, you’re the winner,” said Lottery Director Buddy Roogow. “You’ve just won $1,000 a week for 20 years!”
“Oh my God, I can’t believe it,” said Chanetia tearfully. “I’m just really, really shocked. I had no clue at all.” Currently working as an assistant manager for a drugstore, Chanetia, who mailed in just six entries, said she intends to return to college to finish her degree now that she has received this windfall.
Unemployed just a few months ago, she also expressed gratitude for her mom’s support during that time. “I was unemployed and mom was there. Now I’m a winner…she’s a winner.”
Players collected the letters L-I-F-E from Set for Life Maryland scratch-off tickets and mailed them in for entry into the top-prize drawing. Chanetia’s was randomly selected from more than 93,000 entries.
We’re so happy for Chanetia’s good fortune. Could YOU be next?
