Hey, L.A.: Time is Running Out on a $184,000 Winning Ticket

An official in the communications department at the California Lottery (with whom I once worked), told me about a winning ticket that’s still out there somewhere, worth $184,000.

The ticket is a Mega Millions ticket for the April 25 draw. It was bought at Astro Liquor, at the corner of South Avalon Boulevard and East Century Boulevard. The winning numbers on the ticket are 19, 32, 37, 45 and 52, and the Mega number is 41.

If you have that ticket you have only a few days left to claim the money. The 180-day claim period for the Mega Money ends in just over a week.

If no one claims it, the state will transfer the funds to an education beneficiary.

The manager at Astro Liquor, said store employees have been telling customers to check their tickets, but that none have located it so far.

“All we know is the ticket was sold here,” he said.

This news has also appeared in the L.A. Times, my friend said, so the word is definitely out there.

I will repeat a mantra you’ll hear from me all year, all the time. If you have a winning ticket, first sign the back of it. Then put it in a safe place. After that, it’s up to you when you want to claim the money, but don’t forget where that safe place is.

In the Money:

There was no jackpot winner in last night’s Powerball jackpot, so the big prize rolls over to $32 million on Saturday. Four winning tickets matched the first five balls, but not the Power Ball. Those tickets were bought in Louisiana, with Power Play ($800,000), Pennsylvania, with Power Play ($800,000), South Carolina ($200,000) and Wisconsin ($200,000). The winning numbers were 3,13,32,38,48 and Power Ball 13.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I hit the Power Ball and one other number for a $4 win.

Friday night’s Mega Millions game is worth $32 million.
