Winning the lottery is just the beginning

$20 Million Powerball Winners ‘Go Postal’

What’s going on here?

Powerball’s last two winning tickets have been bought by lottery pools. The $206.9 million game won in Roswell, New Mexico and then, this past Saturday, a $20 million jackpot won by 22 U.S. Postal workers.

I congratulate you all. This is very cool.

Here are the details. The 22 workers at the Philadelphia Bulk Mail Center, near Woodhaven, Pa., had been pooling their money for nine years before hitting the big one.

When they won, they opted to take the one time lump sum of $10.2 million (before taxes). They’re calling themselves the “Lucky 22.”

Lucky indeed.

Spokesperson for the group, Joseph Marquis, said the group includes mail handlers, clerks and one supervisor.

Marquis says the group left at lunchtime amid “a lot of congratulations, hugs and kisses.” He said everybody was waving them off and wishing them luck.

The winners are Larry Hibbett, Keith Williams, Maurice Long, Timothy Herbert, John Meehan, Raymond Jones, Michael Piekielski, Karen Henderson, Eddie Pacheco Jr., Beverly Smith, Winston Davis, Deneatra Jenkins, all of Philadelphia. Also, Barry Bellinger, Darby; Donald Akins, Upper Darby; Gerald Boglia, Levittown; Joseph McGugan, Bensalem; Daniel McKay, Secane; Gregory Haynes, Elkins Park; Garman Gwynn and Ethel Gwynn, both of Willingboro, N.J.; Robert Singleton, Erial, N.J., and Karen Greenfield, Ewing, N.J.

The Powerball ticket was a quick-pick.

The 22 winners collectively are the 11th Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball jackpot winners since the state joined the Powerball group in 2002.

In the Money:

There were no winners in last night’s Powerball game, so the jackpot moves to $20 million on Saturday night. The winning numbers were 2,12,17,48,54, and Power ball 2. The Power Play multiplier was 4.

Six winning tickets matched the first five “white” balls and won (at least) $200,000. One in Delaware, two in Indiana (one of those tickets was worth $800,000, thanks to a Power Play bet), one from Kentucky, one from Missouri and one from Pennsylvania ($800,000).

Friday’s Mega Million jackpot is $16 million.

Good luck.
